Screen Contrarian specializes in creative texts pertaining to all genres of visual storytelling, but is not opposed to novels, graphic novels, or online content. SC is currently translating FROM French INTO English, and only polishes or writes texts in English. For all other languages, send a message. It is possible someone in SC's network can help!

Do you offer discounts?

The brand is about going above and beyond, and is willing to do multiple passes of a project to guarantee fluidity between drafts so that your vision shines through the final version.

What kind of work do you provide most frequently?

Screen Contrarian is always coming up with new material, working most frequently in the creation and translation of audiovisual documents that are being passed between co-productions or onto international distributors. For example, Screen Contrarian translates texts for producers whose financiers do not comprehend the original language.

How do your services work?

When you send Screen Contrarian a message detailing your request, you'll get a response addressing pricing, timeframe, and the help SC can provide. Once the terms are agreed upon, the work begins!

Delivery of texts is established in early conversations. For context, audiovisual translations and polishing can be done in a matter of 1-2 weeks depending on the size of the project. For writing and developments that require more creative input, timeframes may vary.

Do you use AI for writing assistance?

SC does not use AI. The brand looks to maintain and strengthen the power of the human voice. This shows in the work provided.

What do you NOT guarantee?

Screen Contrarian wants the absolute best for your project, but creative writing services only go so far. Though conversation is happily continued after the final product is delivered, Screen Contrarian does not guarantee your goals for the project that exist outside of its services will be met. For example, if you request a translation from SC with the goal of selling your project to a foreign buyer and that buyer later decides against purchasing your project rights, Screen Contrarian is not responsible.

How do I know my intellectual property is safe?

Many production companies and broadcasters will ask writers to sign NDAs or contractual agreements before the work begins. If you are an independent artist or producer and would like Screen Contrarian to supply agreements, this can be done. Assuring clients that their project is in good hands is the brand's upmost priority. SC operates under a strict code of ethics to protect the integrity of the artist.

What about your billing cycle?

It depends on the creative service provided. For writing and development, Screen Contrarian sticks to industry standard pay-scale (FR) and insists on creative meetings before getting started to avoid any confusion.

For doctoring, translations, and polishes of audiovisual texts, all clients are billed via invoice. SC asks for a partial payment in advance when working with first-time clients. 1-page samples can be provided beforehand if there is any hesitation about the quality of work.

Do you have a refund policy?

Screen Contrarian cannot issue refunds after the final text is approved by the client. If there are any discrepancies before then, SC is happy to make the necessary adjustments. The brand's creative process is built around client satisfaction. If you have any concerns further on down the road, you can reach out and SC will be happy to help, but keep in mind Screen Contrarian is not obligated to reimburse payments.

Do you offer networking opportunities?

Screen Contrarian provides writing support for creatives, and does not act as a networking or liaison service. The brand may highlight client testimonies or affiliate work on its website, but as of now is focused on aiding in the creative development of audiovisual texts. It is up to the client to build their professional profile from there. With that being said, there are many outlets available, and SC is happy to offer suggestions, but is by no means responsible for the clients' professional network, representation, sales, grants, or achievements.
